Welcome and Introduction
Korea is a country in transition and like everywhere else in the world is becoming increasingly globalised with the demand for an international outlook and high quality education growing fast. We offer the British National Curriculum, which is widely recognised and combined with an inquiry-based approach creates an international best practice learning environment that develops international mindedness amongst its young learners and builds on our expertise in combining the best of the East and the West.
British Education Korea was established in 2010 and has two International Pre-Prep Institutions (18 months to 7 years old) in Bundang and Dongtan, both well-planned and desirable areas of Seoul. The first Pre-Prep opened in Bundang in 2010 followed by the opening of a second a year later at Dongtan in 2011.
The British Prep, first opened in Hannam-dong in 2013, and moved to its current location in Gangnam in 2017. Now well established the Prep prepares children for senior school with most students going on to attend leading international schools in Korea, the Asia-Pacific region and some to leading independent Prep boarding and Senior Schools in the UK.
The British Lodge, in Namsan, close to the Grand Hyatt Hotel, is a small facility designed exclusively with younger learners in mind. Many students go on to our Gangnam campus, The British Prep, and to Korea’s other leading international schools.

There is no doubt that this 21st century has encouraged a change in educational thinking which embraces the mass of research demonstrating clearly that children need something very different from their education in preparation for the fast paced global world we live in today.
Increasingly we at British Education Korea are responding to those needs with more natural, flexible and creative learning spaces, nurturing skills rather than knowledge and inspiring students to inquire and adapt their learning to new situations. With this new dawn comes the need for students to develop exemplary communication skills and high levels of confidence to adapt and embrace an ever-evolving world.
We are very proud of the way in which each of our sites provide their own unique style of holistic inquiry-based education. High quality teachers are key to this process and we are proud of the staff we recruit and our high levels of retention. We invest considerable time and energy in celebrating every child’s academic talents and achievements as well as constantly expanding their learning experiences to ensure excellent progress in the arts, sport, music and above all, critical thinking.

Vision and Values
The British Prep (Gangnam House)
The British Prep, Gangnam is the flagship campus for the BEK group of schools. This campus enrols students from Reception (age 5) through to Year 9 (age 14). The campus is dynamic, fast paced and fuelled by energetic enquiring young minds. All Prep students enthusiastically engage in a vast array or curriculum based subjects, enrichment activities, performances and sports. Our programme includes an outstanding Music Academy, fencing, a Character Education Programme and integrated technologies across all subjects.
Prep classes are filled with students, young and old, who embrace the concept of globalisation and actively drive activities that focus on global issues. Class based enquiries see our students exploring Seoul and learning in a natural way from the built and natural environment. Yearly residential programmes see our students from Year 3 and up facing challenges in nature and allow our students the opportunity to reflect on their own personal journey. Up to Year 4, each class has two homeroom teachers to support pastoral care and learning.

As a school, we follow the British EYFS Statutory Framework to guide our curriculum. We believe in educating the whole child and utilises enquiry based and play-based learning and teaching strategies. Our way of educating your child encourages questioning, searching for answers, exploring, using their imagination, and feeds their curiosity. It provides them with a quality education, improves their self-confidence, and makes them independent learners, whilst completely immersed in an English speaking environment.
Ultimately, at British Lodge, we aim to give every child the best start to their education. The Early Years are crucial to a child’s first years at school, and through our qualified and dedicated staff, we ensure our children get off to a flying start. All classes have two homeroom teachers to support pastoral care and learning.

The British Pre Prep (Bundang House)
The British Pre-Prep, Bundang House provides an environment which is carefully prepared to meet the unique needs of children from 18 months of age to Year 3 with two homeroom teachers with specialist teachers teaching special subjects, such as Mandarin, Physical Education and Music. The primary goal of our school is to create a nurturing and secure environment where young children can do what they do best. Inspired by play-based approach of learning, we encourage children to learn through curiosity and discovery while incorporating every part of their own experience by enabling their environment: continuous provision which allows children to make choices and initiates play independently.
At The British Pre Prep, we believe in educating the whole child and and our teachers are dedicated educators who understand the importance of providing a healthy, safe, engaging and supportive environment in which children make learning through play. As such, we incorporate play as the primary means by which children explore the world, investigate its properties, and build an understanding about how the world works. Through play, children actively pose problems, explore solutions, and develop understandings of real world concept. The academic rigor is naturally developed through their active participation in their learning which seems like another type of play. To ensure that international education standards are met for our children and their learning, development and care from 18 months of age to 5 years old, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stages(EYFS), and the National Curriculum in England (NCE) for children 6 years of age and older. In addition, a creative, thematic and comprehensive International Primary Curriculum (IPC) exposes our children to a variety range of topics and help them learn in all subjects across the curriculum.
After completing their education on our campus, a lot of our children continue their education at The British Prep, Gangnam House. With a strong foundation in early years, the children of The British Pre Prep, Bundang House are ready to soar in any educational setting with the global mindedness they’ve developed over the course of time here and learned that learning is one of the most fun and fascinating things in the world.

The British Pre Prep (Dongtan House)
The British Pre-Prep, Dongtan House, features an integrated learning environment specially designed to stimulate the learning and development of young children from Nursery (age 4) through to Year 2 (age 7) based on The English National Curriculum, from the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) to the NCE (National Curriculum for England) for Years 1 and 2.The Environment is culturally diverse with a wonderful mix of Korean and expatriate families. The children are therefore immersed in an international environment ensuring that children pick up languages spontaneously through a range of meaningful and diverse learning experiences. They learn how to respect traditions from different countries and interact with teachers and friends from other nationalities.
The British Pre Prep, Dongtan House, provides an inquiry-based learning approach where children’s ideas, interests, and theories inform the design of curriculum experiences. We encourage young children to explore their environment and express themselves using multiple ways of learning which may include Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, Physical Development, Reading, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Art and Design.
The children at Dongtan House are respected as competent thinkers and communicators who are offered many opportunities to engage with a wide range of materials and resources to extend and challenge their thinking.
We aim to support the holistic development of the learner as a whole person, that is their physical, emotional, social, intellectual, creative and language development. All classes have two homeroom teachers to support pastoral care and learning.
Our highly trained Dongtan staff provide a safe environment in which every child will enjoy their learning, become increasingly independent and most importantly develop the confidence to take responsibility for their own actions and decisions.
