Based on empirical research the Sports and Well-being program at British Education Korea seeks to follow a developmental and age-appropriate philosophy. This unique sports program inherently values effort focused on applying sport psychology principles to skill development when a young student first engages in Physical Education/Sports Activities and when they subsequently begin to progress with increased investment of time and effort.
By developing an early emphasis on psychological competencies in sports, we as a sports & well-being program enhance the “young student-athlete” alongside equipping the “young person” with internal assets (commitment to learning, communication skills, restraint; self-esteem) that are necessary for other life domains.
The focus is on skill acquisition rather than outcomes, such that all children feel competent, personal control for effort and performance, and value athletic involvement for a lifetime of sport and enjoyment. Students are encouraged to individually improve and develop in a fun but challenging environment. This unique approach allows each student-athlete to develop their own personality, gain confidence and flourish into creative individual thinkers while using sports as a vehicle to do so.
Athletics The athletics unit incorporates a range of activities including running, jumping and throwing. Students begin with the basic movements of walking, running, jumping and throwing and then build on their skills throughout primary school. Outside of the classroom, the students are encouraged to extend themselves by running faster and over longer distances. They develop techniques to jump for height and distance. They have an opportunity to improve their throwing skills in both accuracy and distance thrown.
Gymnastics This unit focuses on body movement on the floor and using a variety of equipment. As they get better at jumping, turning, swinging and balancing the children sequentially strive to attempt more complex tasks. Children are encouraged to work at their own level and to develop their own potential in a structured manner.
Team Sports / Individual Development All children are encouraged to participate in Team Sports. Opportunities are provided for both individual and co-operative skills. The emphasis on fun and collaboration. Children will adapt games to suit their own skills and abilities. They learn the value of working together to defend, attack, use possession wisely and improving teamwork. soccer, basketball and handball/badminton become part of the experiences enjoyed by the students and it is hoped that children will participate in or at least appreciate the necessary skills used as they progress through life
BEK Sports has designated the FITNESSGRAM as the PFT for students in British Education Schools. The FITNESSGRAM is designed to assess the three main categories of fitness:
(1) aerobic capacity, (2) muscular-skeletal fitness, and
(3) body composition, and is composed of the following six key fitness areas:
■ Aerobic Capacity
■ Body Composition
■ Abdominal Strength and Endurance
■ Trunk Extensor Strength and Flexibility
■ Upper Body Strength and Endurance
These six fitness areas represent a level of fitness that offers a degree of defense against diseases that are associated with inactivity. The test results can be used by students, teachers, and parents to monitor overall fitness and evaluate their physical education program.

KISAC (Korean International Schools Activities Conference) has designed competitions for all students in Years 1 -12. It is a structure sporting framework for present and all future schools within the region. It encourages young athletes to experience the playing of sport against local and national schools throughout Jeju Island and Korea. KISAC believe it is essential that we grow our talent through opportunity and lifelong learning.
Autumn : Football, Swimming, X Country, Table Tennis, Floor Hockey
Winter : Basketball, Floor Hockey, Table Tennis
Spring Season : Basketball, Table Tennis, Track & Field, Football

“Whilst understanding that children are naturally competitive, we need to focus on and understand the importance of player development versus simply winning matches. Player drop-out is a common theme across all sporting codes and a “winning at all costs” mentality – largely driven by coaches and parents - inhibits player development and can lead to a sense of frustration, failure and ultimately drop-out. For children in any sport, the match result must be secondary to the quality of play and the enjoyment of playing. It is essential that young players are free from the constant pressure of winning and are allowed freedom of expression while participating in sports. While staying aligned with the 5Cs of positive psychology and psychological skill training that we have intertwined into our skills development program at BEK, we provide an environment that is strength-based and fosters a Growth Mindset in our Student-Athletes”
